The sourcing of ethical materials is inherent to our brand ethos. We endeavour to source our materials locally from UK and Europe as much as our fading supply chain will allow without compromising on quality. Our hardware is nickel plated brass and manufactured in England. Our zips are Swiss and sourced from a luxury zip supplier Riri. The water resistant canvas we use originates from Dundee, Scotland. We use vegetable tanned cow hide leather on the majority of our products which utilises the liquors present in organic matter such as barks and leaves to turn the raw hide into high quality leather. The raw cow hide is a bi-product of the meat industry so we see the material as a very luxurious recycled product. The cows originate from Europe where we can rely on high standards of animal welfare as this is well regulated. We use a combination of British and Italian tanned leathers depending on the final finish required. Vegetable tanned leather varies from region to region, depending upon the tanning liquors and techniques used in producing the finished article.
The Vegetable tanning process is slow and gentle and achieves a more natural finish to the leather than the chemical process. The result of this gentle tanning leaves a product as close to the original source as possible, therefore marks and blemishes visible on the skin will inevitably remain as a characteristic of this type of leather. You should therefore be aware that the finish on your product may differ slightly from the one in the online images. One of the beautiful qualities of leather as a natural material is the ageing process whereby as it becomes worn it will develop a natural “Patina” and grow more beautiful over time. The patina will present itself as a colour and texture change on the leather and you sould expect it will soften and become dark over time.
All Hands of Tym products are individually crafted by hand, combining natural and technical materials with traditional and innovative construction techniques. Every effort is taken to ensure your product is finished to the highest standard, but your bag has a one year guarantee for wear and tear considered reasonable. Each bag has a serial code so can be tracked back to the date of origin. If repairs are required outside the guarantee period we shall be pleased to provide a quotation for the necessary work.
To care for your bag we recommend a protective leather spray – ‘Collonil’ spray. This is a fine colourless mist which will build up a resistant layer on the leather of your bag if used regularly.
Please take care of your bag – stains can occur if it comes into contact with coffee, inks, oils etc. When the product is not in use for some time, store it in a soft cloth bag in a cool place.
